Cherokee Flats

We are a small, 46 hole, rabbitry located in Farmer City, IL in DeWitt County IL. We are approx 2.5 hours south of Chicago and 2.5 hours NE of St. Louis, MO, 30 mins NW of Champaign/Urbana and 30 mins SE of Bloomington/Normal, 1 Hr E of Springfield making it easy to get to. We breed quality Blue and Black Dutch, Black, Broken Black, Blue and Broken Blue, Chocolate and Broken Chocolate Polish, Netherland Dwarf in Agouti and Tan Pattern, Californians and White Mini Satins. All rabbits are of excellent lines and have excellent temperament. All of our babies are handled from birth to ensure they are socialized and ready for new families.

Our customers range from other rabbit breeders to 4H and FFA members to families with special needs children. They have travelled from as far as Indiana, California, Iowa and Missouri to as close as right here in Bloomington, Normal, Champaign/Urbana, Pontiac and Farmer City. Many of our special needs families have children that would normally not be able to have pets. Because our rabbits are socialized from birth and handled Mulitple times every day, they make EXCELLENT companions.

Our rabbitry is thoroughly cleaned once a month and cages cleaned weekly. All rabbits are groomed daily and allowed out (individually) to run in one of rabbit runs during nice weather. When feeding time comes, all bowls are washed in warm, soapy water before being refilled with fresh food. We feed once daily approx 4 oz. We try to spoil them as much as possible.

Our rabbits aren't just our breeders or show rabbits. They are part of the family and are treated as such. We want homes for our rabbits that will treat them as we do. We want to make sure that they are well taken cage of and spoiled as much as possible.

ABOVE: Here you can see the south wall of the "Rabbit Cave". We have 20 breeder cages here. In the back, you can see our weaning/for sale cages.

BELOW: This is the East wall of the rabbitry. We now have 16 weaning/for sale cages. We have a 12 hole stack and a 4 hole stack.

The rabbitry was a bit cluttered the day I took these pics but, looks much better now that spring is here and I can clean it all out!!!

Californian Stack (in the basement) houses 3 does. We also have a 24x30 brooder pen for mom's with babies.

All of our cages with exception of the Mini Satin stack, one of our weaning stacks and the 2 hole over flow stack (ordered) have all been built by Koenig's Kountry Supply in Edwardsville, IL. BIG CHANGES!!

As of March 1, 2010 -- Cherokee Flats has it Poultry & Rabbit Raisers Exemption from the Illinois Dept of Ag in springfield IL. We can now sell rabbits and chicken meat (already processed, packaged and frozen) to the public. We are also able to deliver it if we are heading your way. We will have more rabbit meat available the end of April 2010, June 2010, August 2010, October 2010, December 2010 and Chicken available August 2010.

Eggs will be available all year providing chickens cooperate with the weather :) Eggs MUST be picked up here at the farm. Fresh, Free-Range Brown eggs are available for $3.50/doz. Bring your own carton and get them for $3/doz!! Call for availability.
